Blogging About Blogs: Time To Get Meta-blog-tional with Joe Owens

I’ve been blogging a lot about myself lately (and/or my reactions to things and/or stuff) and I wanted to do something different today.  Since metafiction is such a big to do these days, I thought we’d go with a little meta-blog action.  And, where better to go meta-blog-tional than with my good friend and fellow writer, J.M. Owens?  I mean, Joe seems to be a big fan of metafiction.  Why not make his blog the topic of my meta-blog blog?

You see, Joe keeps an interesting blog on his web site.  Frequently, Joe makes lists.  Most are literary related lists, but I suspect Joe likes making lots of lists of all different kinds.  He may just not post them all.  I don’t know for sure, but I think there’s a good chance.

Regardless, he has a regular feature on his blog called list Thursdays.  So I thinks to meself, what better meta-blog blog kind of action could I have than to do a list of Joe’s list Thursdays?  Seemed like a great idea to me.  Anyone who doesn’t agree please submit your complaint in triplicate along with a SASE and three quarts of tomato bisque soup to:

State of California- State and Consumer Services Agency
Department of Consumer Affairs
Bureau of Home Furnishings and Thermal Insulation
P.O. Box 980580, West Sacramento, CA 95798-0580

Anyway, without further ado, here is my list of Joe’s lists:

1. Joe’s Top 10 Literary Journals/ Magazines 12/2/2010

2. Steve McQueen’s (the dog’s, not Bullitt’s) Top 10 [+7] List (or, books Joe believes one of his dogs would read if he could) 11/11/2010

3. Joe’s list of The 23 Journals/Magazines Literary Agents are Reading 10/31/2010 (NOTE: note actually done on a Thursday, but I’m including it here anyway.)

4. Books Joe is embarrassed to admit he hasn’t read… yet! 10/21/2010

5. The 25 Best Women Writers, In Joe’s Opinion 10/14/2010 (NOTE: I list that this is Joe’s opinion only because he does.  Frankly, it is also my opinion that these are all amazing women writers, but no one really cares about my opinion.)

6. The 10 Best Essay Collections Joe’s Ever Personally Read 10/7/2010

7. The Best 15 Nonfiction Books Joe’s Personally Ever Read 9/21/2010 (NOTE: Also not a Thursday, but I’m running this show so any haters can go fuck themselves.)

8. The 15 Best Story Collections Joe’s Personally Ever Read 9/20/10 (NOTE: Again not a Thursday.  What are you going to do about it?)

9. The 15 Best Novels Joe’s Personally Ever Read 9/19/2010 (NOTE: Still not a Thursday and I don’t care.  See the address above for complaints, though please also include an explanation why Newton’s first law of motion does not violate the third law of thermodynamics.)

Well, that’s it.  Joe had another list post, but it wasn’t so much a list as an announcement that another list was coming so I chose to skip that one.  In any event, we’ll see if critics later label me as a meta-blogging pioneer.  Personally…I kind of doubt it.

About David S. Atkinson

David S. Atkinson enjoys typing about himself in the third person, although he does not generally enjoy speaking in such a fashion. However, he is concerned about the Kierkegaard quote "Once you label me you negate me." He worries that if he attempts to define himself he will, in fact, nullify his existence...
