Dear Spammers: Please Make Your Comments At Least Appear Relevant.

Is it so much to ask that spammers make their comments on my posts appear relevant?  I don’t think that it is.  Frankly, I think it is in their own best interests to at least try to appear relevant.  Then they can try to sell stuff.

Now, I don’t get a huge amount of spam.  However, I do get some.  Of the stuff that is obviously spam, some of it at least makes an attempt to sound like a real comment.  Some is so obvious though that I can’t even pretend.  These are the people that need to get on the ball a bit.

I mean, I sometimes allow even the ones that are obviously spam and say things like “What a great post!” or “How informative!”  I know they are spam, but I don’t delete them because I like for it to look like someone cares about my blog.  No one does, but I like to pretend.

However, the ones that are just lists of links to product sales that aren’t even associated with the post get deleted.  Also direct offers to me, particularly if not related to my post.  Also ones that appear to be actual comments but have no imaginable relationship to my post.

Come on, spammers, get on the ball.  You can post your shit in comments to my posts if you at least put forth the minimum effort so that it appears to somehow relate to my post.  Otherwise I’ll delete you.  It’s not a high threshold so there is no reason that you can’t try to meet it.

  1. Has there ever been any kind of legal action by the Spam folks complaining to the person or persons who began the usage of the word, “spam?” Did the term “spam” begin as a acronym?
