I hear the rental market in Denver is pretty tough right now. According to this article, people can expect to pay about 32.9 percent of their monthly income on a rental, about 51.6 percent more than the historic norm. However, monthly rent isn’t the only concern with an apartment or such.
After all, some areas I’ve lived just required first month’s rent and a small damage deposit to move in…whereas others required first month’s rent, last month’s rent, and a substantially larger deposit. However, given the rental situation in Denver, landlords can ask even more.
Here are some things they could probably ask for:
– first born child
– proof of bigfoot
– the holy grail
– an authentic map to the lost cities of gold
– a live jackalope
They might not be able to get all of these from every possible tenant, but it’s a tough rental market out there right now. They could ask for all kinds of unreasonable things and people would still probably try to get it.
Gotta have a place to live.
